Meeting Notes
The Machine Knitters of Pensacola, Florida met August 11, 2007 at the Milton Library, with Teri Jaburg, Ann Odom, Karen Hughes, Dianne Bayless, Jean Neal, Von deLoach, Barbara Meloy and Susan Spencer in attendance.
Teri Jaburg joined us for the day for the first time in a LONG time. She brought a large portion of her yarn stash and shared it with us, as she is giving up most machine knitting in favor of her hand knitting. She is keeping her LK-150, and we hope to see her again soon.
Barbara Meloy demonstrated using a knitting machine to knit a round yoke, and discussed several variations (such as fair-isle) that can be added to a yoke to make that sweater extra-special. These yokes can be inserted into a sweatshirt, or uses as the basis for a fully knit garment. She also wowed us all with a demonstration of the garter-bar!
Barbara's technique is based on Joyce Schneider's book, and is a simplifiaction of her techniques. Barbara is always in a hurry and looks for more efficient ways of doing things. Her write-up on this subject is available in the Free Patterns section.
The next meeting is September 8th, 9:00 a.m. at the Milton Library. Barbara will be teaching St. John's Trims. Everyone will need to bring samples, yarn and crochet hooks to work alongside her to learn these beautiful finishes.
HAPPY KNITTING!
